How You Can Help

Support for Ronald McDonald House South Island takes many forms - from individual volunteers and contributions through to group fundraisers and schools.

What they all have in common is the desire to support their community and provide assistance to families in a time of need.

Without the level of community support we receive it would not be possible to continue to provide the service we do. Thank you all.

How can you help?

Volunteer

Research shows the path to happiness lies in helping others.

Ronald McDonald House South Island relies heavily on the assistance of more than 130 active volunteers who work in the House on a regular basis. All over the South Island, though, hundreds more commit their time and energy to build awareness and raise funds in support of their own community.

Volunteers perform a wide variety of tasks within the House. If you are able to donate time on a regular basis, maybe an hour a week, 1⁄2 a day per fortnight or whatever time you can give, we can use your help.

Volunteer duties include:

  • Cleaning: Help around the House with light housework, cleaning, cooking, general maintenance
  • Baking (either in our House or yours)
  • Gardening - light duties
  • After work supervision: From 5.00 - 8.00pm, between the office closing and the after-hours supervisor beginning
  • Overnight assistants to relieve the after-hours supervisor: Involves staying on site to be on hand if needed (you are provided a room and sleep on-site)
  • Administration: From helping with mail-outs and data-entry to covering reception during the holidays
  • Fundraising: Form a fundraising committee, assist with event ticket sales, start your own fundraising event
  • Join the Family Dinner Programme

Fundraising

Being based in Christchurch and raising funds all around the South Island can be difficult.

We need volunteers to:

  • Generate and manage fundraising ideas in their own community
  • Help distribute newsletters and information
  • Identify potential Business Club members or sponsors for us to talk to
  • Source prizes for auctions and raffles
  • Liaise with local service clubs to keep them informed and involved
  • Provide 'feet on the street' for collections and events
  • Keep us up to date with what's important to your community

Your time, energy and skills are valuable to us. If you would like to help in any way, please call the office and talk to us about your desire to help.
