Volunteer Stories

"Truly a home away from home"  img_2866

Every Tuesday for the last three years Robyn Cumberpatch has been volunteering at Ronald McDonald House South Island – a place she describes as “truly a home away from home”.

“It is a very positive and happy place, and there is a real sense of warmth as soon as you walk in the door. Coming home to such a tranquil environment helps the families cope a bit better, I am sure.”

Robyn has been involved in administration, data entry, and housekeeping – generally anywhere that she is needed.

“After retiring as a school secretary I found that I had time on my hands and volunteering for the House has always been something I had thought about.

“It gives me a real sense of fulfillment every week, knowing that you are doing something to help your own community.

“I just love it, I really do.”
