As well as helping with administration, volunteer Gay Goodman will often arrive at the House laden with an armful of fresh fruit for our families. That is not to mention the 40  or so soft toys that she has recently made.

“Ronald McDonald House is just such a wonderful cause, and I feel so fortunate to be able to help some of the families that stay here.”

Gay started volunteering over a year ago, and continues to help out every fortnight. She first became involved through her husband Brian Goodman, chairman of the Freemasons New Zealand Southern Division – an organisation that has provided ongoing support to the House since we first opened in 2003.

Gay was also part of the team that helped clean up after the February earthquake, allowing us to reopen our doors and accommodate families with sick children.

“I will definitely keep volunteering for the House as long as they need me – you just get so much out of it,” said Gay.

“I always leave with a smile on my face, and it is a good feeling knowing that you are putting something back into your community."
